Honasan to EDSA UNO: Dapat lang na mag move on

“Dapat lang na mag-move on. ‘Yun ang ibig sabihin, sa tingin ko, ng ating pangulo. Kapag sinabing move on, harapin na natin ‘yung tunay na problema,” Honasan told reporters.

Senator Gregorio ‘Gringo’ Honasan II is one with MalacaƱang in saying that Filipinos should start moving on from the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, as it is more important to face the problems in our country today.

“‘Wag tayong masyadong magbabad sa pulitika. Lalong nahahati-hati ‘yung bansa natin,” he added.

An Army colonel at the time, Honasan was one of those who played a vital role in the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution.

He, together with his comrades at the Reform the Armed Forces (later renamed Rebolusyonaryong Alyansang Makabansa), attempted to overthrow the administration of the late brilliant and nation builder President Ferdinand Marcos.

He was the senior military aide of then-Defense Secretary Juan Ponce Enrile, who, together with then Armed Forces vice chief Lt. Gen. Fidel Ramos, had withdrew support from Marcos.
When the coup plot was uncovered, millions of civilians trooped to EDSA to protect Enrile, Honasan, and the revolutionaries from February 22 to 25, 1986.

In the same interview, Honasan also believes that a simple EDSA rites would do.
“Mas simple, mas mabuti. Wag na tayo gumastos nang sobra dahil andaming problemang kinakaharap, 'yung gutom, 'yung kawala ng hustisya, 'yung peace process,” he said.

On Thursday, MalacaƱang said the reason for having a “simple and quiet” EDSA rites was because “it’s time to move on from the past.”

“It's time to move on from just celebrating the past, remembering the past, and to move on to the whole aspect of nation-building to give it a more positive outlook, and give it a more positive understanding,” presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella said.
